Clients
Working with clients
Clients are real people who log in and see the parts of a project you have chosen to share. This is how to set that up without giving away more than you meant to.
Inviting one
- Add the client company under Clients, and attach it to the project.
- Invite the person by email with the client role.
- Grant them the project. Nothing is shared until you do.
Use the client role, not collaborator. A collaborator is a freelancer working with you and can see internal content. If someone should never see your internal notes, they are a client — see teams and roles.
What changes the moment they are on
Everything on that project which is not marked internal becomes something they can read. Not "could theoretically find" — read, in the ordinary interface.
The pre-flight check
Before posting anything on a project with a client on it, two questions:
- Is a client actually on this project? If not, nothing here is going anywhere.
- Is this — or the list it is in — marked internal? If neither, they will see it.
It takes a few seconds and it is the difference between a candid internal note and an awkward phone call.
What they get
- Roadmap — where the work stands, at the level you chose.
- Messages — a thread with you, attached to the project.
- Invoices — once issued.
- Bugs they reported, when you mark them client-visible.
Give them the short version
There is a single page written for them rather than for you: you have been invited to a project. Send them that link rather than explaining it yourself.
